The Ross Swamp Tragedy 1909
A historical record of the Ross Swamp Tragedy 1909, Bridgetown,
Western Australia, as researched by Clive and Maureen Thurston
in 1997.
This is a booklet about Donald Ross and his father, Colin Ross,
who were potato farmers on a property about 14 miles (22 kms)
south of Bridgetown from 1905 until 1909.
Donald Ross shot his father and then took his own life in January
1909.
The extraordinary trench that he dug through hard rock to drain
the swamp still remains today. In parts it is over 3 metres deep
and less than 1 metre wide. |
